Ok, if you are serious... here goes. Venkman started with do, as in the note on the melodic scale (do re me fa so la te do). Ray continued with the next note in the scale, re, but it also happened to be his name. So, instead of continuing with me (the next note in the scale), egon was confused and said his name as well. Do, Re, Egon!

Thanks. Watching certain scenes in movies bring back fond memories for me. This was one of them. Looking at it now it isn't the funniest scene in the world but at the time it just tickled the funny bone in that special way and that makes it a great, memorable little scene.

I love the film, but the joke is a bit lame

I remember sitting in the theater with my mom in the summer of 1989. I was ten years old and when Ramis goes "Egon" we both died laughing. I don't know why but to this day whenever I see this little scene I remember vividly my Mom and I sitting in the theater and laughing at this. It's one of those funny little movie going memories I have from when I was a kid.
