If you like the Golden entertainment of the 1920s, you might like Brendan McNally's dark comic novel "Germania" (Simon & Schuster, 2009), about the Flying Magical Loerber Brothers, four somewhat magical, Jewish vaudeville entertainers and onetime child stars who were the toast of Berlin before WWII and who reunite during the surreal, three-week "Flensburg Reich" of Admiral Doenitz, Hitler's very unlucky successor.
before the war, this city was saturated with spies! im amazed at the gutsy ones who hung on during the war! in Berlin!! sitting in cafes casually reading novels, the very picture of calm coolness! what nerve!!
Yup. I read somewhere he was a show pit drummer in NYC, went over to France to fly planes in WW1, and just stayed. He was most popular in Germany, but lost his band in 1933 because his Jewish heritage meant he could no longer work there. That's when he returned to the US.
You can:) if you look very hard in your local vintage shop Im sure you'll find something...I found a pair of shoes the women in the red cross during the 40s used to wear:)
God I wish I was around back then!
I wish I could find some shoes like they wore then.
This is from "Blackbirds of 1928" featured Ellington, Bill Robinson, Ethel Waters, Cab Calloway, and many more...

This is the same Lud Gluskin who became C.B.S.' music director,
Love this song! Also sounds like music that they used to play in those old cartoons!
Really HOT! I have this song sung by Bojangles
Fascinating! Great music, great photos. Thanks! :D
Wow, I'm starting to get some clues here. You not only have an impressive sound collection, but an equally rich library.

Bubbly tune, enthusiastic singing, and a nice collection of zany dames.
Fantastic version! Gorgeous pictures - incredible where you keep finding them.
Hot enough to melt the ice outside my door. Who's the lady in the bed or chaise lounge ca. 2:00?
Another excellent number. I loved the stage photos. |
