Don't forget, he was doing it while everybody was expecting the Dolphins to throw the ball.
Marino was putting those numbers when the rules didnt favor passers so much as they do now.
This year in the playoffs there was only one team with a decent running game (Jets).
Man, you can just see how fast Marino's release was in the clips that are in slow mo. The ball just explodes out of his hand.
or brett favre last night and pretty much every other season besides 1993.
Dan Marino was once asked which one of his records meant the most to him. He said that the touchdown record mattered to him most because TD passes most directly contributed to winning.
I've been to 3 Dan Marino games. Unfortunately, none in Miami (would give just about anything to have been at the 1985 MNF classic against "da Bears" - in the Orange Bowl, no less). Having grown up a Dolphin fan, I've also watched this man on TV countless times. Coach Shula has referred to Dan's competitiveness and unequalled desire to win on numerous occasions. bj, you are dead-on, correct. #13 did NOT play for records.
@Rennpanzer
Sure thing
You never saw Marino play if you think he just played for the records.
nat moore nfl pro bowler from the gators, where's that helicopter catch?
Welcome to Spain bitches
No dumbass, he just got out played. Choking? Do you even watch football? Choking is Tom Brady in the superbowl vs the Giants or Jim Kelly in four consectutive superbowls he lost. Thats choking...
Invadr1 I dont think Marino was ever really known to choke, he just never had a teamand you want to talk about a choker lets talk about Jim Kelly thats choking on it BIOTCH!!!
really? did he also invent choking in the big game sucker
Joe namath had a bullet pass in the 1960s
ok thanks
thx
Nat Mooore
#89 in these clips is Nat Moore. He had been in Miami for a number of years before Dan, and the "Marks Brothers" (Clayton & Duper) were drafted. There's a story that Moore had been considering retiring but changed his mind and stayed around, as a third receiver, for a couple more years when Marino revitalized the Dolphin passing game. He was a good, solid player, but you can tell he was nearing the end of his career when you see him get caught from behind in this video.
the person with jersey number 89, i don't know exactly who that is.
whos 89?
It's only fitting this video has 13 rating on it. I wonder how many people saw that and didn't want to mess it up.
p.s. Dan Marino invented the Bullet Pass!!!!
does anyone know where i can see the ENTIRE game of the dolphins vs the bears in the 85 season?
1:02 Number 89 makes a touchdown and the refs hat falls of
This footage looks like all games from the '85 season. My favorite was Duper catching the ball one-handed. They beat the Jets in that game 21-17. It was the first of 7 straight wins, which gave Miami the ASC East. Along the way they kept the record safe by beating Chicago, a team they'd have beaten again had they not choked away the AFC Championship.
There are many great players who never won "The Prize". And some playing today, that never will.
Still, that does not diminish their greatness.
Those great Buffalo Bills teams made it to the Super Bowl 4 times. Unfortunately, they never won it BUT they still were a GREAT TEAM.
Im so VERY Happy I got to see Dan the Man's induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame:D |
