If he was in a real war, he would have had a zeroed scope, a bipod, and been prone, plus he would have fired that same rifle about 500 times before to get use to it. So odds are no, he wouldnt have died.

One thing to remember is the type of round that is being fired. If you hit a chest shot with a 7.62 from a medium to close range, they might survive. At that distance, it has a ton of piercing power. That's why most countries stick to the 5.56. But your absolutely right. For all intents and purposes, a shot the chest makes you useless. The true strength of the gun is its distance and its targeting computer, and since all of the wind and variable information is inputted by the user, you might as well just train the sniper for extreme distance shooting. The computer is a crutch. As for the Barrett, its hard to fight the logic. Love that gun too.
