First heard Vaughn Monroe sing this song on channel 10, then called, WCAU-TV in Phila., PA in the spring &summer of 1950 in the background of the Ghostrider Show, an afternoon kids' show featuring western movies and introduced by a "cowboy" in black, masked as Eastwood is shaded in this video.

At last! A decent melody, & clear words: and what makes it so, is someone who can at least sing it with expression and feeling & make it sound believeable!
