@agricola The Dragunov SVD was never designed to be a sniper rifle. It's a mass-produced marksman's rifle, for use by sharpshooters, not dedicated snipers.

@Wxn30 The SVD isn't based on the AK action though. It has a short-stroke gas piston.

If it's russian and uses a kalashnikov design, you can't go wrong, price and reliability are never a question with guns like this.

@DonUzaki Well the slightly shorter barrel might have a bit of effect on it but it uses a different twist rate than the standard SVD barrel so i have no idea.

Are there any disadvantages of the SVD-S over the SVD?

@andyhuangit The Ppsh Submachine gun, the SVD, Dragunov and Makarov Pistol are ugly? I think they look sharp.

@14EspanaNS88 Yes they are legal here in California, they just have to have a "bullet button" or way to fix the magazine in place. They cost around 30 bucks for AK/SVD type magazine releases. The hard part is finding a used one and getting someone to ship it to California.

It has reliabily and accuracy which makes it one of the preferable snipe- I can haz cut-off perventionz plz. Kthxbai

@wolfgoblin I don't see it either. The SVD, especially with classical wooden stocks, ranks high on my "Sexy Gun"-o-meter.

The way I see it, The SVD is the best derivative of the AK47 design..

@14EspanaNS88 Honestly, i haven't the slightest idea. You shouldn't trust me with your laws anyways, i'm not even in the same country. In theory, since it's got a thumbhole-like stock and 10-round magazine capacity it SHOULD be legal but in practice it might be specifically banned somehow, and even if it wasn't you couldn't get one because they cost upwards of $10000 if you're lucky enough to find one for sale.
