@knowgostick It was/is a fairly common method for sound effects, since the sound track is right there on the film. I'd hope that there is some information still out there on the technique.

I think there was a line only for sounds right next to a normal film so you can synchronize them. and I think, not sure though, that was not really scratch, more like dots.

So, on wikipedia it says that McLaren manipulated (scratched) the sound strip directly to get the sound effects. Does anyone know if there is a set way, or method to do this? Like certain length shapes/scratches for certain sounds. Also, does anyone know how to make their own sound stripped film, since they don't make it anymore? I'm just getting into film, and was just curious about the process.
