This album means so much to me for so many reason I almost cry when I hear it. i was so little when my brother played it constantly.Now I'm so glad he did. I was about 8 or 9.But I just get shivers up my spine when I hear Royal Scam specifically. I love so much!

@AresCassell It's actually supposed to be about Puerto Rican immigrants coming to America under false pretenses, but your interpretation also fits. I mean check out the album's cover: corporate buildings of downtown L.A. w/ reptilian/snake/beast heads!

SD fans often name 'Aja' as their best, but to me 'The Royal Scam' is an equal in terms of quality. The sound/mixing is special -great guitar solos, bass and drums are really prominent in the mix,prophetic lyrics, some really funky tunes - Kid Charlemagne, The Fez, Green Earrings, The Caves of Altamira, others quite dark & mysterious -Don't take me Alive, The Royal Scam, and still some humorous/quirky -Everything You did, Sign In Stranger and a Reggae - Haitian Divorce. Very 'modern'.

Hands down one of my favs by them!

I personally think this song is about the interbreeding bloodlines behind the new world order. Even if I'm wrong, Steely Dan was an extremely talented group.

When people talk about their favorite or what they think is the best Steely Dan album, rarely do they mention "The Royal Scam". Can't figure that one out, all their albums are great but, I think this might be my fav, if I HAD to pick one........

Why does everyone hate on this album, I loved it. I'm one of those people that despised Steely Dan, like I did Bob Dylan, then I grew up and realized what a child I was.

This great tune DESERVED more air time!

the only album close to royal scam is nightfly. truely the einsteins of music; what ever genre you want to try to pigeon hole them into is not broad enough to contain their genius.

@slither305 Ironically, themetal heads i know (well, the ones who actually play music) dig steely dan. Oh well, keep on doing your own thing mate.
