How To Become A Test Driver

While it’s not very easy to apply for a test driver like it can be for a job at the mall, it’s not like trying to break into acting either. There’s no perquisite to be a car magazine test driver like you would need for a lawyer or doctor. Thus, you’ll just need to find a path that works for you. It sounds a bit daunting; but, people who test drive vehicles come from all walks of life and professions.

For instance: One test car driver worked in a retail bookstore. He was hired by an automotive publication by taking on a fairly simple job in the photo library of the publisher. The photo library worked in conjunction with the automotive division on a regular basis. When a job opportunity came up, he was in the best place possible to get the job. What does he do now? He heads to Palm Springs and Hawaii, driving fancy cars and hanging out at the racetracks.

This story is quite common. Many people – both men and women – find their way into the profession using similar methods. It might surprise you to learn how rapidly things can progress to get this type of job… if your mind is set to it. Each person’s career moves along at its own pace; however, three to five years is the standard time to be hired as a test driver.

What You’ll Be Doing As A Test Car Driver

It doesn’t matter what kind of experience you have or your education level, you just need to learn how to write… and write well. Once you have test driven a vehicle, you need to write an article based on what you have learned. If you’re not in the car driving, you’ll be writing all kinds of stories and articles.

There’s no need to be a prizewinning writer with years of journalism experience if you want to become a test car driver. Many folks working in this field taught themselves how to write professionally. With a little bit of practice, you can write good enough to pull the job off.

For any person who loves the idea of driving and doing it in an exotic place, you can begin a career in this field. It’ll take some effort to be employed initially. But, once you do, you’re going to have a lot of fun!
